I've had most of my spine fused (the surgery that you're having done) but it wasn't for a slipped disk. The surgery isn't as bad as what most people think but it's not "fun" at all. The healing can be pretty long. I think like after 9 months you wouldn't even know that you've had the surgery done.

I had lower back surgery seven times. I have a cage in my lower back that's degenerating due to osteoarthritis. Nothing more can be done, I am in pain all the time.
I was in a body cast for six months then a partial cast for four months, then a brace for four months. I had to have surgery again due to scar tissue. Another year shot. It's getting worse as time goes. I'm seventy now and trying to outlive it.

Operations on backs are very rarely successful....seen many in 16 years nursing. It should be the very last resort after all options have been looked at....lifestyle changes, physio/massage/chiro etc....

Well my friend had back surgery such as this. She wasn't able to run and had to walk with a hunch. She's going back in though, soon, because she needs another surgery.
